Mysore 2

New Gayathri Bhavan – Sunday 15th September

For a day and a half I’ve further explored Mysore in the company of Deborah, a fellow solo traveller. Her journey through India is for just five weeks, but as she has already travelled some of the world as a contract teacher: Colombia, Zambia and currently Pakistan, her sojourn here is not as a fast tourist.

Our conversations have not been especially scintillating, skirting around personal motivations, but as we were both beginning to suffer the singular slothfulness which builds up when travelling alone, our companionship was welcome. It also set up that level of banter that shields oneself from the constant contact with India.

Did I really hear the double amputee, from upper arms downwards, appeal to me for alms?
